How long do you think it would be before offshore oil drilling occurs?

^^^ I think he means untapped reserves that have been a talking point this election year. ^^^

If you're talking about in the US, I think it might depend on what the situation is after November 4th.

Either way, its neither a quick fix for oil demands, nor would it drastically reduce the prices. Significant production wouldn't even be seen for about 10 years, even with decent reserves. How long do you think it would be before offshore oil drilling occurs?
Assuming you're referring to offshore drilling in areas of the US that are currently off limits, there are several things that would prevent it from happening fast.

Let's assume the ban was lifted. There are no available rigs right now so any new exploration would have to wait until new ones could be built (18 months to 2 years). After that, exploration begins. This takes several more years before any oil would actually be produced.

Once the oil was located, there isn't enough to impact the price of gasoline. Remember, oil is a global commodity. Anything produced in US waters is sold on the open market. How long do you think it would be before offshore oil drilling occurs?
It is real hard to say, as long as those animal lovers continue of get in the way, it will not happen, We have so oil here in the states and those freakin animal lovers and tree hugers are making it hard on people. Thanks to them, that is one little reason why we still have high gas prices. I mean we need oil, people are scared of oil tankers crushing or sinking and causing problems, but we should take our chances.
It already does.
