Is it disingenuous to use high gas prices in a campaign speech if you voted against oil drilling?

and expanding nuclear energy facilities? Is it disingenuous to use high gas prices in a campaign speech if you voted against oil drilling?
It is perfectly correct to protect the planet by voting against drilling where other natural resources would be sacrificed.

It is perfectly correct to protect the planet by voting against Nuclear power where any location would become an instant target to any enemy who could bomb it and spread radiation on the population. And what do we do with the nuclear waste products?

It is WRONG to refuse to allow any of the countries oil reserve to be used to offset the high prices. It is WRONG to choose instead to keep buying it to fill the reserve to the MAXIMUM capacity. It is wrong to artificially increase the countries demand by being a part of that demand as our president has.

Dilling for more oil only sets us up for the same problem sometime in the future. Oil is a finite resource. Solar power and wind power are not!

Ethanol is a fraud since the machinery used in farming the corn and then the machinery used to turn it into fuel is using as much fuel as the corn would actually produce. The use of bio-fuel (oil already made and used for cooking food) may help somewhat. Solar and wind power is environmentally friendlier.

What the poster below has to say about the ';extreme left'; is not backed up by anything but his opinion. The extreme left is not sending our young men off to Iraq-that is the extreme right. The exteme left know that misery we currently are experiencing is to profit the 3% wealthy of this country and want a change.

If the twin towers in New York and the Pentagon can be attacked then what makes anyone think that the Neclear power plants could not be?Is it disingenuous to use high gas prices in a campaign speech if you voted against oil drilling?
As long as you live no where near me then feel free to let them build a nuclear power plant in your neighborhood. I certainly don't want one in mine. Report Abuse

No. Because neither one of those policies offers a long term solution the problem.

You would think that in the age of the ';war on terror'; we might hesitate to build more nuclear power plants when we don't even know what to do with the waste being generated by the current ones. Haven't you seen 24 (Season four I think?)

And you would think that if oil prices are going to keep rising and oil is a scarce resource, it might not be a bad idea to save that oil in Anwar for a rainy day. After all, that oil isn't going anywhere and it is only getting more valuable. Or maybe we should just try and consume all the oil in the world in the next 5 years so you can have $1 a gallon gas?
Admittedly drilling for oil is a shot/medium term solution. Still, if we are to reduce our dependency on oil, expanding off shore drilling and drilling in Alaska would help alleviate some of that.

We have the technology now to build new Nuclear Plants that are far more efficient and would greatly reduce our dependency on oil for energy. Technology has also gotten to the stage where nuclear waste can be made inert and used for other purposes.

The problem with liberals is, they don't want solutions. Instead they would rather continue the problems so they can promote their socialist agenda through abject fear.
Yes.

The only way to reduce oil prices is for the United States to start drilling on the contintal shelves off of all of our coasts and in Alaska as well.

The next souce is nuclear energy.

We had a plan when I was serving in the Carter Administration during the first gasoline crisis that we would build 2000 nuclear reactors in the Uniited States of America by the year 2000.

that would have made us energy independent.

Currently much of our electricity is generated by natural gas.

It is not only much cheaper to produce electricity with nuclear energy than with natural gas, but also that frees up natural gas that was used to produce electricity for use in automobiles.

An automobile can easily and inexpensively converted to run on natural gas.

The cost of natural gas in many parts of the country is only 60 to 70 cents per energy equivalent of a gallon of gasoline.

Essentially in many parts of the country using natural gas to run your car is like only paying 60 to 70 cents per gallon of gasoline.

Even in high cost states like California the cost of natural gas is only $2.50 for the energy equivalent of a gallon of gasoline.

That is stil much cheaper than gasoline.

By increasing the drilling for oil off of all of our coasts, that is east, west and south, including the Gulf Of Mexico and drilling in Alaska we will increase the supply of oil which will force prices down.

The revenue from the oil will help balance the budget.

Nuclear power plants will provide cheap electricity and will free up huge supplies of natural gas for automobiles.

This will dramatically decrease our dependence on foreign oil.

It will also boost our economy and help balance our budget.

Also the person who said we do not know what to do with nuclear waste does not know what she is talking about.

We have been prevented from reprocessing spent nuclear fuel rods from nuclear reactors for political reasons, because some of the fuel that is recovered could be used in nuclear weapons.

In fact all of the reprocessed fuel would become new fuel for nuclear reactors.

The so called nuclear waste is actually a wonderful valuable source of fuel for nuclear reactors.

The nice thing about nuclear reactors is that they produce more fuel than they consume.

Far from being waste this material is fuel that can be recycled and reused in nuclear reactors as fuel.

The so called nuclear waste issue is an artificial block that was created for political purposes to stop the use of nuclear power.

Currently the French of all people are way ahead of us.

France gets over 70% of its electricity from nuclear power where in the United States that figure is less than 10%.

Also, France reprocesses its own spent nuclear fuel rods to peoduce more nuclear fuel.

That way France does not have a nuclear waste disposal problem.

The solution to the so called nuclear waste issue is to recycle the spent nuclear fuel rods.

We recycle aluminum cans, glass bottles and plastic food trays, why can we not recycle spent nuclear fuel rods.

The reason is that the extreme left does not want you to do that because the extreme left does not want you to have inexpensive sources of energy.

The extreme left also does not want you to be able to drive your own car to work or to feed and clothe your family because the extreme left thinks that there are too many people in the world.

The extreme left is afraid that if it is too easy for us to get energy to heat our homes and drive our cars to work that it will also be possible for us to have children and raise our families.

That is one thing that the extreme left does not want.

The extreme left wants to make you miserable because the extreme left does not think that yo have a right to exist.
Not if you're for alternative sources of energy besides those two.
It is very ';disingenuous';.

{hi}
Finally, intellectual and rational thought.

Thank You
No, drilling in ANWR would only give you a few months respite, not years.
Absolutely!
It is! And cheap!
Yes!
