Will the filibuster hurt the Republicans in november since it refused tax subsidies for wind and solar and allowed a much needed bill to stall in the Senate with just 59 votes only one shy of the number needed to break the filibuster. The tax credits will expire at year's end, and so will a lot of momentum for solar and wind development.





Republicans also blocked a sensible bill aimed at curbing the speculation in oil markets that has contributed to the churn in oil prices. Another widely supported bill to provide more home heating assistance for the poor died last week again also a victim of the politics-first, policy-later attitude.

No one is blocking oil drilling, there is a ton of it going on all over the US. If you are referring to the off shore drilling issue, No it will n ot hurt the Dems in November and here is why. Most educated people realize that any new off shore drilling will not even be a factor for 5 to 10 years. Plus any oil gain through off shore drilling would have little to no effect on international oil prices. And finally, even if the oil companies wanted to start new off shore drilling tomorrow they couldn't. There is a serious world wide shortage of oil shore rigs and ships needed.
It bothers me that they will not look to that direction or even have Oil companies add new refineries........Are they going to call Oil companies Economic Terrorists and have Governmentt controls over these companies? Maybe thats the solution, if thats the reason I'm all for it....Power to the People and lower fuel prices!
Obama's pandering is hurting him. If he was a man of conviction and stated that offshore drilling would only have a marginal impact rather than caving in under pressure, then he would be more respectable. Instead he flip-flops under pressure like the Iraq War and FISA.





He is showing his true political self; a man out to get votes. Obama is not anything new. People need to stop deluding themselves.
The calculated risk by the Democrats is that Americans will feel an economic pinch this fall, Americans will ignore the role that Democrats have played in creating it, and Americans will therefore vote for Democrats. We'll see if people are that dumb.



the democrats are going to eventually cave on this issue...but frankly, i'm glad they are holding strong against it..the longer they refuse to drill, the better it is for republicans to take control of congress and the presidency..they are very dumb monkeys..
The DNC tries to come across as the ';party of the people'; but in this case they must have slipped, when the majority of the people are for drilling and the DNC ignores their wishes it could affect the vote in November.
not if they adopt my hybrid idea of limited offshore drilling with strict environmental oversight while creating tax incentives to get Detroit to making more hybrid electric cars, that way the offshore drilling carries us until the new alternative energy kicks in giving us new jobs and energy independence.

No, because nobody is refusing oil drilling, just certain oil drilling, and drilling or not drilling has absolutely no effect on the near future.
