While it is being debated, the Chinese are jumping to their guns by planning an oil drilling in Cuba's territory. Why oppose this when other countries can do it very simply? Giving away resources for political positioning or for campaign funds?McCain and Obama (alphabetically arranged), what are their stands on the US offshore oil drilling issue?
McCain is all for it.
Obama is outright against it.
Doesn't make any sense to me at all. We need to drill more so we can be self sufficient where oil is concerned.McCain and Obama (alphabetically arranged), what are their stands on the US offshore oil drilling issue?
Cuba has tried to get everybody to explore for oil off their coast.
Canadians did some of the exploration work.
As a result of their work finding and drilling oil off the coasts of Newfoundland and Nova Scotia (Hibernia 1%26amp;2, Sable Island) they have become a bit expert at it.
There are no drilling rigs in the area of Cuba.
China did a bit of seismic(1) work and gave up.
I am sorry to say it, but Cuba has no oil worth drilling.

Melissa, Why lie?

McCain adviser Doug Holtz-Eakin, in the Tampa Tribune:
McCain backs the 2006 law that bans drilling in the eastern Gulf. ';If the people of Florida view that as something that should be off limits, it remains off limits.';
First, this China drill offshore of Cuba was a talking point last week. Dick Cheney was using this in speeches as if it was a fact. It isn't . He later apologized about it. McCain is not using as a pandering point for a electorate thats is going through gas pump shock.
Our country consumes 25% of the 'worlds' oil. Think about that number for a bit. Do you really think that drilling for more solve the problem. It takes about 5 years to find new resources, not to mention we do not have enough refineries to process any oil that shows up today.
Realistically there will be no improvement to the supply side of oil for the next 5-10 years. You better start plannig to be more effiecit with what you have or find alternatives to way you consume oil products.
well Bill Clinton vetoed drilling in 1995 otherwise we would be getting cheap gas at the pump right now no refineries no drilling while we sit on trillion barrels of oil (how ridiculous)Obama will tax big oil even higher and we will soon see $10.00 a gal at the pump when the democratic congress took over gas was $2.30 a gallon. Could you imagine what oil futures would do if the liberals said lets drill oil it would go down immediately and continue to fall.
McCain initial position on off shore was not to allow it, this
was of course a decade ago, for O-Bomb-A supporters
thats 10 years ago. Since per barrel prices have risen,
and now pump prices are at mid 4's per gallon. McCain
has now said, It should be up to the states, that will be most
effected by this being done.
O-Bomb-A, No one is quite sure what his stand is, One
second he is aganist, then He maybe for, than he is against
again. He is not quite sure. Like everything else he will
wait untill McCain takes the positive and correct position,
then ridicule or try to steal the same position.
McCain was against it before he was for it. ( flip flop)
Obama is against and would rather spend money finding alternate fuels. Mostly because it would be years before the US would see anything from the off shore drilling.
The oil off shore would not make us independent from foreign oil
McCain is for it, Obama isn't (the effects wouldn't hit us until '2017' so he figures lets wait until then to start, I guess)
Florida (the Rep. state) is in the process of setting things up for offshore drilling. Republicans have supported this.
Uh yes....There is oil, and we're gonna find it
