I mean we just can't GROW our way out of a food shortage by producing more food can we? The nerve of these starving people! Why don't they just conserve the food that they have or look for alternative sources of food - why are they so dependant on food anyway? Growing their own food to increase the food supply is just ABSURD! ABSURD I tell you!!What if we applied the same logic to the food shortage as we do to oil drilling?

More and more people are moving away from agriculture and farming and doing other jobs. At one point of time more than 95% of Indians were farmers and India used to be one of the major exporters of food. But now the percentage is very less and is decreasing constantly. All the agriculture land is been converted to residential land. The government of India has banned the export of rice because it is not sufficient for their own country. This has affected the people in deserts countries like the middle east where they depend only on imported food for survival. The food demand has become more than the supply.





There is going to be a great silent global FAMINE very soon even without our realizing it.
Your logic is flawed. Only so much oil can be pumped, and then it is gone. Drilling can only find oil that is already there. When it is gone, it is gone forever. Food can be grown and regrown every year. Technology can develop plants that get more food per acre.
if most farms were being farmed and the only new farms would only increase food production by a small fraction...





it clearly wouldn't be a solution to the problem...

Not when entire fields have been wiped out in the Midwest. Floods can often wipe away nutrient rich soil, plus farm equipment gets ruined, and seeds and fertilizer are usually gone.
