Why are Democrats so opposed to U.S. produced oil?

yeah, but it took 48 years for that to happen. So, that is an increase of about 271 per year for 48 years. I guarantee you it didnt take 48 years for the human population to double and the human population doesnt only go up by 271 per year.

Because as a matter of policy, drilling should only take place under environmentally sound conditions. Why doesn't Bush release the oil reserve? He would profit by further drilling , regardless of ecological consequences
I really dunno, because I live in Canada. But if I have to stop eating my home-made polar bear stew I'll be mad. Can't stand the canned kind.

The truth is, when you upset the food chain in the nature of an environment, it can have devastating effects in ways that effect humans that we can't even imagine. Over population of some species would result and it would go down the line to the lowest parasites which is usually what effects our environment in the worst ways.
Maybe what we want is to deal with global warming and cut back on our dependence on oil. It has not been proven that there is enough oil in ANWR to cut our dependence on Foreign Oil. That was what they said about the oil out of the North Slope of Alaska. If we save a few polar bears at the same time so much the better.
Majestic or cuddly animals are used by environmentalists as proxies to halt the development of resources as part of thier broader luddite agenda. The spotted owl was used to stiffle the timber industry in the 80s. Using the polar bear as a proxie for global Global Warming will put /all/ human activity (yes, folks, even breathing releases greenhouse gasses) on the chopping block.
It is all about control . They want total control . Whether over oil or people . This is yea a way to stop any dilling in the Attic or another pipeline up there .
If there were 25000 people left we would be extinct.
