I have an idea. Let's have oil companies drill for oil on lands that they have permits for but haven't developed yet. There are billions of barrels on millions of acres to develop just on the ones they already have permits for.
What do you say?Why do we need more land or water opened up for oil drilling?
Why not let the oil companies who know where the oil is
decide where to drill check out the satistic when they just
drill holes in hopes of finding oil they fail 60% of the time.
Why should we allow China to drill with in 50 miles of our shores but tell our own oil companies no way?

Do you remember how much gas cost when the Democrats gained control of the Senate and the House I do.

There's no oil there. In addition to what others have said, there are two trillion barrels of shale oil in the Rockies.
Most of the world鈥檚 known unconventional oil resources are located in North America. Some1.7 trillion barrels of oil are contained in the oil sands of Canada (Ref. 9, Pg. 40). An addi-tional 2.0 trillion barrels are contained in oil shale located in Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Kentucky, Ohio and Indiana (oil shale re-sources discussed in Volume II).
Uh.. you'd be incorrect.

-The existing leases cover only 3% of the total available area.
-The reason they're not drilling there is because there's no oil there.

-U.S. Oil production is at it's lowest level since the 1940's

We send 700 billion/year to the Saudi's for their oil.(5 times the cost/year of the Iraq war)
That's 700,000,000,000 to Saudi Arabia !!!!!
And you say you're against 'big oil';?
Prove it. sign this
Drill Here, Drill Now

show the proof that oil companies have land under lease, show some references - besides those of democratic congress people aho are in no way shape or form a part of an energy committe.
what if the lands which have been oked to drill do not have enough oil to justify the expense.
Everyone acts as if the oil companies were completely stupid- if they could drill for more oil and make even more money- they would.
my advise to you - is stop listening to all the spoon fed ideas from idiots in washington. the oil companies have already stated in front of congress that if they were allowed to drill for more oil - then they would but there are currently laws blocking them.
Oil companies have lots of permits, true, but that doesn't mean that there is oil in those lands. We do know that there are billions of barrels of oil in ANWR and off the US coast. It is extremely foolish not to allow oil companies to drill there when oil cost over $130/barrel. We need to decrease demand for oil and to increase supply. Anyone who doesn't agree with that is foolish or misinformed.
We need to have a domestic source to stop the dependency on foreign oil to avoid exactly what is going on now with this totally artificial price manipulation. In Alaska there are BILLIONS of gallons of oil ready to go...we need to avail ourselves of our own resources.
Exactly. That's what people don't realize. Oil companies already have a LOT of land under lease that they haven't touched yet.
Maybe there isn't oil in those area's see they could be given permits to explore all of Texas that doesn't mean all of Texas has oil.
I think we need to allow our own companies to secure offshore sites before the Chinese move in like they are doing right now off the coast of Fl. Its our oil, not theirs.
I agree, kind of. Oil is so expensive that some of the more difficult places to drill can be seen as viable.
Sambo has an extremely valid point.
There is no proof that there is oil on those lands. They know for a fact there is oil in ANWAR as well as off shore.
good grief lets just get rid of all the tree huggers, and get our own oil where ever we can, we have the resources in this nation, lets start using them, for Gods sake!!!!
Because the greedy Bush cabal and cronies are addicted to wealth and the good of the country be damned!
Because gas is $4.20/ gal.
It seems so obvious. We need more oil we have some we should drill. Simple.
