How can we keep Oil Companies from drilling on our property?

We live on 10 acres and we do not own the Mineral rights. We have put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into making our home a place we love. We do not want an Oil Company coming in an drilling on our property. How can we keep Oil Companies from drilling on our property?
first of all you would need to get a lawyer and a court order..which would stipulate that if indeed there is oil on your property, that you get a fat residual roayalty..up front...which in the first place they wouldnt be drilling there if they didnt think there was oil there..and in the event that there is no oil there..then they should be willing to compesate you for that inconvience....remember the beverly hillbillies situationHow can we keep Oil Companies from drilling on our property?
Now you know how the people in the mid-east feel.
Unfortunately, since you do not own the mineral rights there is not much you can, of course even if you did they would probably just go after you through Eminent Domain laws anyway. You can try to petition and get signatures and try and talk to your local officials.
You need an attorney, not Yahoo Answers.

Just because they have the mineral rights, that does not give them unfettered surface access. Your attorney should be able to help you.
I'm afraid your S.O.L, not owning the mineral rights. The person owning them can have drilling done on your land. An oil company can angle drill under your land, with out coming on it. If they know there is a rich oil supply under your land they will get it one way or other. They may even offer to buy your out.
Seriously, you need to hire an attorney. Mineral rights alone does not give any company permission to rip up your property. You should also contact your local representatives to alert the government to your plight (not that most of them will do anything but who knows? maybe you have a good one).
Can't stop progress. Besides, if you're a REAL American, you can be bought off your 10 acres for the right price! GREED RULES!!! It's the American Way!!!
Strap a atomic bomb to yourself and chain yourself to the ground where the are planning to dig....
well it's your property.

they need your approval.

or else they're breaking the law.
I don't know what state your in,but in Texas I am told that you would have to have a minimum of 20 acres before they can drill an oil well on your property. This due to the size of the drilling location, the reserve pit, and all. Drilling on less would pretty much';consume';the surface property, making it too high a damage liability for the oil company,as it could be considered a total loss.
