Why isn't the discussion about the Government drilling for Oil in Alaska, instead of Private Oil Companies?

I have never understood this. Although I was formerly a Democrat my whole life, I would compromise on the issue of drilling for Oil in Alaska, if it was done by the government. It seems like a very Obvious solution to the problem, if we accept that the oil companies are the ones controlling the price through the market, why not take the market out of it? It is government land anyway, so why don't they do the obvious. Isn't there an inconvient silence here that tells a thousand words? Why isn't the discussion about the Government drilling for Oil in Alaska, instead of Private Oil Companies?
The Democratic Comprehensive Energy Plan To Lower Gasoline Prices

This is how we will do it. And this why we will do it.

This country has so much under used industrial capacity in our

Auto Plants, Airplane Plants, Steel Plants and Electronics Plants to

make America Energy Independent in 2 to 5 years. We can build enough

windmills and solar power and wave generation energy plants to

replace 90% of all of the electricity generated by COAL and NATURAL

GAS.

For $400 Billion we could build 400,000 windmills and provide

electricity for every home in America .

The Coal and Natural Gas saved by Green Replaceable Elecrrical

Generation can now be used to make fuel for cars, trucks, busses,

boats and airplanes, and or plastics, chemicals, fertilizers and

pharmacuticals.

We need a comprehensive plan that puts America back to work in

endeavors that benefit 99% of America.

Our Government...........the CONGRESS %26amp; SENATE specifically refuse to let companies in this Country go after our OWN RESOURCES.

Do I hear ';revolution'; anywhere??? It is time to OUST they shysters from their seats!!!!! Our Politicians are our main problem with everything that is wrong in this Country.

WAKE UP AMERICA
Personally, I don't want our govt. choosing how much to charge us for oil prices. How long has it been since those jokers had a real budget where they had to pay for their gas expenses. We've been paying that for them for so long, I doubt they know how to pump the gas themselves.
The government won't do the drilling. It will be done by private companies with the permission of our government. Probably won't happen because evidently the government likes these high fuel prices for us.
Because the left think that corporations are evil; even though corporations employ 95% of the population and are publically owned by 80% of the population through stock holders, mutual funds and 401K's.
the goverment is not in the business of drilling for oil

nor are there any oil drillers in the goverment
The government does not have the equipment, nor the expertise to drill for oil.
The government doesnt know how.
No
The government doesn't drill for oil. That is not the government's job.
Most Democrats look to the government for a solution - and - blame the government's inactions on all the problems.

During the late 60's Alaska and oil companies saw the need for new oil - the result was the Alaskan pipeline. It came online in time to help out the West Coast of the US during the gas lines and issue of the late 70's. This is capitalism at work.

In the early 1980's the Alaskan congressional delegation fought language in a large bill that had the potential to close ANWR to drilling. The bill was important and it was late in the game to make changes - the Alaksan delegation was assured it would be 'fixed' in a later bill. But thanks to Jimmy Carter and the Democratic party - the oversite language was never 'fixed' and all future drilling was closed.

Since then, the Alaskan congressional deligation has tried many, many times - several times in just the last 18 months - to right this wrong and open ANWR up for oil exploration. And each time the Democrats have shot it down.

Had the Alaskan delegation stood their ground many years ago - or - the Congressional Democrats kept their promise to Ted Stevens - the USA would have a second bigger and better oil pipline operating in tandem with the existing one, along with a natural gas pipeline - all running by now. Between the two oil pipelines and one gas pipeline it would have provided more than 50% of the entire US energy need. Rather than the 8% it does now with the Alaskan pipeline operating at half capacity due to no new oil fields.

Since the Alaskan pipeline was built the caribou population around it has gone from 610,000 to over 2,000,000 and polar bears from 5,000 to 25,000. If ANWR were a regulation football field, the size of the area the oil companies want to access there is smaller than the size of a postage stamp.

Here is a list of people, who just TODAY - voted against drilling.

Chair: Norman D. ***** (WA)

James P. Moran (VA)

Maurice D. Hinchey (NY)

John W. Olver (MA)

Alan B. Mollohan (WV)

Tom Udall (NM)

Ben Chandler (KY)

Ed Pastor (AZ)

Dave Obey (WI), Ex Officio

Bottom line. The reason we are all in this pickle is due to the government and politics. Not much at all really to do with oil companies....... they spend $.60 cents per gallon to find, refine, ship, and dispense gasoline, and, earn about $.16 profit per gallon. That accounts for $.76 per gallon. The rest is your government taxes and Democratic party at work.
