What do you think of Obama last statement on oil drilling?

Obama said he is against off shore oil drilling because it won't have any results for five years. Does this mean in five years we won't have a need for the oil? Is he looking out for our future or is he just making sure OPEC will be in control for a long time. What do you think? What do you think of Obama last statement on oil drilling?
Thats about a lame excuse. So what if we wont have results for 5 years. At least 5 years from now we will have some results. There is no quick fix solution to Americas oil/gas problems. Even trying to develop alternative fuel source vehicles and get them on the road in mass numbers is going to take much longer than 5 years, does that mean we should scrap that idea as well?

EDIT:

Oh and to those who think Offshore drilling is wrong, China is drilling for our oil 50 miles off our coast yet we cant? WTF is up with that? What do you think of Obama last statement on oil drilling?
I'm not sure what his intent is here. On his website it has this:

Increase Renewable Fuel Standard: Obama will require 36 billion gallons of renewable fuels to be included in the fuel supply by 2022 and will increase that to at least 60 billion gallons of advanced biofuels like cellulosic ethanol by 2030.

Set America on Path to Oil Independence

Obama's plan will reduce oil consumption by at least 35 percent, or 10 million barrels per day, by 2030. This will more than offset the equivalent of the oil we would import from OPEC nations in 2030.

So we're looking at a 5 year wait with offshore drilling and a 22 year wait with his plan?
Drilling for our own oil is a step toward energy independence. If the results don't show for five years, that's fine If we start now, in five years we start to see results. If we wait for 5 years, then we don't see results for 10 years...Obama is committed to foreign dependence. Simple as that. Obama is committed to the status quo, which is the equivilent of NO CHANGE. Obama and OPEC will lead to the demis of the middle class. Economically, Obama just doesn't have a clue. Use your brain, vote McCain!
I agree with what most of Obama says, but this is one of the times that I disagree. What I have found is that we are becoming too dependent on other countries resources. Sure they have the oil that we need, but what Obama is failing to see, is that we have all of the oil right here in our own country. I don't support McCain or Bush but I think that they have the right idea, when it comes to oil drilling. They both want to lift the ban on drilling oil offshore. We have tons of oil beneath the surface, and Obama doesn't want to take advantage of it? I support him, but he needs to wise up and get while we still can..
Don't any of you understand this issue???

No amount of drilling can save us. There is not enough oil.

Global demand now exceeds supply.

Yes, we may be able to increase supply a little bit, but we can't possibly increase it as fast as the demand is increasing.

The only solution is to develop alternative energy sources.

Yes, the current price of oil is inflated by speculators. But you've got to ask yourself why they are betting long on oil. The reason is that they have done their homework. They know that supply will never again catch up to demand.

That's not a bad thing, though. In fact, high oil prices are a great thing, because that's the only thing that will make us adopt nuclear, wind, and solar in the widespread manner that we need to.
What he basically means is two-fold: 1.) He's taking something that will positively create a real tangible 'change' and putting a negative spin on it so that if, God help us, he gets in office, he'll have an excuse to do nothing about it. 2.) He's saying basically that he knows nothing about how the price of oil is determined by futures traders and speculators, or the economy in general. The very news of new oil being tapped will spark these speculators and traders who drive UP the cost of oil based on production worries in the middle east to drive the cost back DOWN because of new supply because we would be in control of own production, not the King of Saudi Arabia. Speculation would then be almost non-existent. This would be an almost IMMEDIATE effect on the cost at the pump. Obama's entire campaign is based on creating an illusion of 'hope' and 'change' for the American people, but in reality, it appears he has no real plan to make it happen. Instead his answers to this problem are higher taxes for oil companies and more regulations that he supported in the senate that will drive the cost higher. Typical socialism at it's finest.
This statement sounds negative BUT - anyone with a brain can see that the dependence on fossil-fuel oil is a road to disaster. Is Obama looking to continue buying from abroad - or is he considering a massive jump to alternative sources of fuel? A SMART politician would be creating avenues of research. The United States of America was a pioneer of research in general for decades upon decades! What has happened?

Here is a good start - a logical and purely correct start to the oil problem. Before clicking the link - let it be known that there is so much negative hype POWERED by the filthy rich CRIMINALS that live off of the profits of fossil-fuels that the media is clouded with DISINFORMATION. Corn is NOT the answer - the fear of losing grains to fuel thus starving the world is a massive example of this sort of DISINFORMATION.

ONE answer among many is: ALGAE

Either Obama or McCain know anything about economy %26amp; let alone oil !

you need to understand every candidate has an army of advisors from economy, education, social security abortion,Military, healthcare, the war, speeche and how to say the words ,when to raise or lower the voice even the clothe %26amp; its color that they must wear for certain places like if they going to a very Chritian satates then must have the conservative look and so forth..... deception,

deception %26amp; more deception.
Yes we need to find all source's in fixing this problem. Obama is trying to please all the groups who think this will hurt areas that are drill in. Truth is the way of drilling today won't have the effect they think it will. Once the drills are in place they can fit into the environment and have little or no effect.
either way oil's time is pretty much over. People are trying to come up with other alternatives and they will soon succeed. Honda has finished their zero emission car running off of hydrogen and electric. eventually most cars will be running this way.
If people love this beautiful country they wont destroy it by drilling. We need other alternatives maybe we can use those alternatives in five years instead of destroying the land and still have to wait.
It would take years to get any real result, and the dangers it puts the people living on the coast outwieghs the gains. Neither candidate supports the idea.
Obama is so dumb. Watch out folks. You can't take your

vote back next year. Look at this impotent Democrat Congress.
Barack Hussein Obama is a friend of terrorists and any smart person knows that drilling oil in our own country will actually reduce our Gas bills, even McCain knows this.
Clinton said the exact thing10 years ago. HE said it will take 10years for oil drilling. Guesss what now we need oil the most. IF clinton went throught it it would have help us with this problem
It shows his short-sightedness and inability to do the right thing because his voting base would turn on him.
I think Obama is going to say ANYTHING to get in office and then he is going to turn face.
wink wink Saudi Brothers, I've got your back. j/k

Just shows how dense he is, even if it takes five years we need to start now. Should have started years ago.
He's looking out for our long term future and not going for the short term do nothing drill our way out of this approach.
Obama will say anything to look good ,my opinion he is the worst kind of snake in the grass piece of s---
He is an out of touch fool
