When was the last major oil spill?
Is YOUR industry that safe?
Why the @$%%26amp; aren't we drilling OUR OWN oil? What other industry has a safety record AS GOOD as oil drilling?
.............. Still cleaning up after Exxon Valdez and thats been twenty years agoWhat other industry has a safety record AS GOOD as oil drilling?
If you want to talk about the effects of the oil industry, go read up on Shell Oil and their activities in Nigeria. Find out about how tons of people were forced off their homelands without any compensation because Shell ruined their farms. Find out about the various skin diseases that local people suffered from because of the acid rain that was generated by gas flares built in close proximity to the villages there. Find out about the execution of Ken Saro-Wiwa at the hands of a government that was in bed with Shell Oil.
I'm sorry, but I have no love for big oil. I'm not anti-oil; I'm just anti-immoral corporations.
We can and do drill our own oil.
Unfortunately we can't expand production enough to make a significant impact on oil prices. The reason is because the US only controls about 3% of the worlds oil.
You've probably heard about huge oil deposits in the US such as the Bakken formation. And you may be wondering, surely if we drilled there, we could improve our energy security. Unfortunately the rock there is not very porous, and extracting oil is very difficult.
Geology just happens to not be on our side on this one. Gone are the days where you could poke a hole in the earth and have oil spout out of the ground.
How much are you willing to risk to harm your Mother earth? What about our children's future? We need clean energy! We need to harness the wind and the sun! Yes we CAN produce clean energy!
And don't even start with trying to use Nuclear power. Nuclear power is evil!
Ummm.. Hmmmm鈥?the coal industry?
';Safety'; is a relative term, don't ya think?
